Newborn Baby in the Hospital

It is time! You have carried your baby for about ten months, and now it is finally time to meet. There are a lot of unknowns and new experiences in your future.  However, there are things you can do to make bringing your baby into the world a pleasant experience. One way is to know what to bring to the hospital if you are having a hospital birth. There are a lot of suggestions for what you should bring to the hospital, but here are eleven things that you should pack in your hospital bag to make your experience a little more comfortable.

1- Comfy Clothes

You are going to want to be as comfortable as you can while at the hospital. The hospital is going to be your home for the next few days, so bring a lot of comfy clothing. Your clothing of choice could include:

  • a robe
  • pajamas
  • a nightgown
  • baggy men’s t-shirt, or
  • all of the above!

You never know exactly when you will go into labor. You could be at work, grocery shopping, or at a wedding which means you could be in rather uncomfortable clothing on your way to the hospital. This is why you will want to have comfy clothes packed for your hospital stay.

2- Slippers or Flip Flops

Hospital floors are cold. And you want to be able to get in and out of your bed without lacing up tennis shoes. Slippers and flip flops are comfortable are a nice to slip on if you need to use the bathroom or go on a walk for any reason. You might even want to bring both.

3- Toiletries

The hospital will most likely provide some toiletries, but you know best what you like and what you will need. Some women say that hospitals are really dry and wish they would have brought their own lotion and chapstick. Your own hair ties are another great item to bring. The truth is that your toiletries will most likely be better than the hospital toiletries. And having your own personal items can make you for more at home and comfortable.

4- Camera

Whether this is your first child or your fifth child, you will want a way to document the memories. Having your camera or your cellphone is a great way to capture the first moments and hours of you baby’s life.

5- Your Own Pillow

This one is a must have. No everyone loves the hospital pillows, and everyone likes their pillow a certain way. One of the best ways to stay comfy either before or after childbirth is to have your personal pillow. In addition to your pillow, bring your own blanket! Being surrounded by items from home can have a calming and relaxing effect.

6- Snacks

You don’t know how long you will be at the hospital. You don’t know if you will like the hospital food. And being anxious for your new baby to come can make you munchy. Make sure to stock some of your favorite snacks before you go to the hospital. Bring a variety of goodies in case you have a sudden craving.

7- Extra Bag

You will most likely get a lot of extra stuff at the hospital. Typically, the hospital sends you home with things for the baby, such as clothes, a bottle, or a blanket, and even some take-home items for you. Since you don’t know how much you will get, it will be nice to have an extra bag.

8- Music Playing Device

Music is a great way to relax. And the best kind of music is the music you pick yourself. Bring your iPod, MP3, or whatever music device you have so you can listen to music if you want to.

9- Nursing Bra

A quality nursing bra has a lot of benefits. For example, a supportive bra can help reduce pain and tension, especially in your back. Without a supportive bra, you put extreme strain on your back and shoulders. Nursing bras are also more comfortable than a normal bra and make breastfeeding easier and more convenient.
